Hillbans Pest Control is based in Ryde on the Isle of Wight and is owned by husband-and-wife team Peter and Sandra Knowles. The company’s team of six staff includes three technicians, which work across the island.

Sandra said: “Unlike the UK mainland, if we can’t provide a specific service, it’s not simple for the customer to bring in other expertise. This is why many leading mainland-based pest control companies use us to look after their clients on the island.

Sandra said that the company’s ethos is centred on ‘going the extra mile’.

She reported that one of the team is qualifying as a field biologist, all team members are working towards the Level 3 award in Pest Management, and an apprentice has gone from one-day a week to full-time, working alongside a degree in business administration.

Sandra added: “To win this would just mean that everything we have done, and are doing, is working.”

Integrum provides pest and bird control services free of charge to Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, and had also raised money within the pest control community by encouraging other companies to donate the charge for their first wasp nest treatment of the year – raising funds for their charity.

Technicians are a minimum of RSPH level 2 trained and qualified.

“We’re extremely proud to be named as a finalist, largely because it’s recognition of how far we’ve come and what we’ve achieved – we’d be tremendously proud to win, but even being a finalist is a massive achievement,” he said.
