Syngenta’s journey towards saving lives

Did you know that nearly half of the world's population is at risk of malaria? And that 90% of all reported malaria cases are in sub-Saharan Africa? 

According to World Health Organization figures, around 435,000 people globally died from malaria in 2017. Increased prevention and control measures have led to a 29% reduction in malaria mortality rates globally since 2010.

These gains have been primarily achieved through the use of insecticide treated bed-nets and indoor residual sprays containing pyrethroid insecticides. However, extensive use of these interventions has led to mosquitoes becoming resistant.

Dealing with this emerging resistance

On World Malaria Day - April 25 - we highlight Syngenta’s journey to deal with this emerging resistance. “We set out to develop a product that is long lasting, provides almost year-round protection and allows some of the malaria control programs to make some significant cost savings,” says Andy Bywater, Head Marketing Professional Pest Management. 

The result is Syngenta’s ACTELLIC® 300CS, which has been granted formal recommendation by the World Health Organization for malaria vector control. Click on the video above to find out more about the success of ACTELLIC® 300CS and how it is saving lives.
